“Why aren’t I getting more done when I’m so busy everyday?”
In 2016 I quit my full-time job to be able to focus 100% on my online business (I was a personal finance blogger back then). With all of that extra time and energy to put towards work, you would think that income would skyrocket. That’s what I thought at least. That’s not what happened (womp-womp).
I was busy all day, probably working twice as many hours as I did previously. But, it was another year before I figured out exactly why my income didn’t budge when I was finally able to put all of my focus on my biz.
Busy is not the same as productive.
Hours do not equal money.
The word productivity literally means that you are producing something.
Productive = producing.
So, when you’re busy or “working on” a project, you’re not actually being productive unless you are producing a result/finished product.
I was busy all day, but I wasn’t producing much. Once I realized this, I started thinking about my days differently.
I planned my time based on what I wanted the end result to be – what I wanted to produce. Game. Changer.
Instead of planning a day to “work on” blog posts, I decided that I wanted to produce drafts for four blog posts by the end of the day.
Instead of “working on” the digital product I had been wanting to create for months, I planned to produce an outline. And then a draft. And then a finished product that was for sale! In fact, this digital product that I had been meaning to create for months, ended up getting finished in one week once I focused on producing results.
I became productive instead of busy. My income increased like never before. I actually lowered the number of hours I was working!
None of my clients are lazy. They’re busy all day long.
But there’s a big difference between being busy and being productive when you’re an entrepreneur. And at the end of the day, being productive is what will move the needle in your business. It will have you earning more money while working fewer hours.
What do you want to produce this week?
If you have a big project in the works, break it down into tiny chunks so that you can plan what results you will create each day.
When you shift into true productivity as an online entrepreneur, you’ll see exciting results without having to spend any more time working.
