You Know What to Do. So Why Aren’t You Doing It?

You’ve got a goal. You know exactly what it takes. You’ve watched the YouTube videos, bought the cute planner, and maybe even made a vision board with a suspicious number of magazine cutouts of cute gym outfits.

And yet the planner is still pristine. The gym outfits are still a dream.

If you’ve ever said, “I know what I need to do, I’m just not doing it,” welcome. You’re in very good company. That’s the number one thing I hear from women who reach out to me. Plot twist: it’s also the best sign that accountability coaching will actually work for you.

The Usual Suspects: What People Try First

Before anyone lands in my inbox, they’ve usually tried a couple of classic moves.

The willpower plan

The “new me starts Monday” or the “I just need more discipline” approach.

Willpower is fantastic at 7 am on Monday. By Wednesday at 3 pm, it feels better to try again next week. When your entire plan depends on feeling motivated every single day, it falls apart the first time you’re tired, busy, or someone brings donuts to work. (And someone always brings donuts to work.)

The accountability buddy

Next up: recruiting a friend. You’ll walk together every morning! You’ll text each other when you finish your writing! It’s going to be great!

And it is great. For about nine days. Then she gets busy, the texts get quieter, and suddenly you’re both “starting fresh next week.” Again.

This isn’t your friend’s fault. She has her own life and goals, plus her own pile of donuts to resist. She checks in when she remembers.

I check in like it’s my job. Because, well, it is.

What Accountability Coaching Actually Looks Like

If you’re picturing someone with a whistle and a clipboard yelling “One more rep!”, I promise it’s way more fun than that.

Good morning, what’s the plan?

Every weekday morning, I text my clients and ask what they’re planning to do that day. Then they tell me when it’s done.

Some days that’s a four-text exchange:

  • What’s your plan for today?
  • Walking at lunch!
  • Done!
  • 🎉🎉🎉

Other days we chat a lot more. If something keeps getting bumped to “tomorrow” (we all have that one task), I’ll ask some questions about your mindset or motivation to figure out what’s really going on.

And yes, there are memes. There are celebration emojis. There is a healthy amount of silliness. Accountability doesn’t have to feel like reporting to the principal’s office. It can feel like texting your most enthusiastic friend, who also happens to never forget.

Calls to zoom out

Along with the daily texts, we have regular calls throughout the 8-week program. That’s where we step back and look at the big picture. What’s working? What’s not working and needs a tweak?

The texts keep you moving. The calls make sure you’re moving in the right direction.

The not-so-secret ingredient

Consistency. I don’t forget. I don’t ghost.

You get steady, reliable check-ins every weekday for eight weeks, and that’s what turns good intentions into actual habits.

A Real Example: The Art of Celebrating Tiny Wins

One of my clients came to me with nutrition and eating goals. She was already working with a nutritionist, so she had the plan. She knew exactly what to do.

What she needed was someone checking in on her actual actions every day. Enter me, with my morning texts and alarming enthusiasm for the confetti emoji.

She was really hard on herself. If she made a great choice, she shrugged it off as something she was “supposed” to do anyway. No party. No confetti. Not even a polite golf clap.

In coaching, we celebrate every little step in the right direction. Every. Single. One.

At first, that felt weird for her. Celebrating felt unearned. But those tiny celebrations started stacking up, and they built momentum. And momentum is what carries you through the days when motivation is nowhere to be found.

This is also a great reminder that accountability coaching doesn’t replace experts like nutritionists, trainers, or editors. Those experts can tell you what to do. I help you actually do it. We’re a team. Like peanut butter and jelly, but with less stickiness.

Who This Is Not For (Yes, Really)

I’d love to tell you accountability coaching works for everyone. But I’d rather be honest than have you spend eight weeks being annoyed by my texts.

If there’s no “why”

Coaching works best when you actually care about the outcome. Maybe you want more energy, a finished book, or that “look at me go!” feeling. Maybe you’re done with another year of the same frustration. Either one works.

But if there’s no real reason behind the goal, it’s tough to succeed. I can bring the check-ins and the confetti emojis. I can’t bring your why. That part’s all you.

If you’re a Rebel

If you’ve read Gretchen Rubin’s Four Tendencies framework, you might already know your type: Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, or Rebel.

Rebels resist expectations, even ones they set for themselves. So for a Rebel, a cheerful “What’s your plan today?” text can feel less like support and more like a dare to do the exact opposite. Daily check-ins can trigger some serious resistance.

If that’s you, no shame at all. Daily accountability just probably isn’t your tool, and there are other approaches that’ll suit you much better.

The Bonus Perks You Don’t Expect

Reaching your goal is the obvious win. But here’s what my clients tend to love even more:

  • Habits that stick around. Eight weeks of showing up builds routines that keep going long after our last check-in.
  • Actually celebrating yourself. Learning to cheer for your effort, not just the finish line, is a game changer. Bonus: it’s way more fun.
  • Small steps over big moments. No more waiting for the perfect Monday, the perfect mood, or the perfect free afternoon that never comes. Small, consistent steps get you there faster.

So, Will Accountability Coaching Help You?

Here’s the short answer. If you’ve ever said “I know what to do, I’m just not doing it,” then yes. It very likely will.

You don’t need another book, app, or color-coded planner. You need someone who checks in every day, celebrates your small wins like they’re big ones, and helps you get back on track without the guilt spiral.

Let’s Chat

Still on the fence? Totally fair. That’s exactly what the free Meet & Greet call is for. We’ll talk about your goal, what’s been getting in the way, and whether my 8-week accountability coaching program is a good fit. No pressure, no hard sell, and possibly a few emojis.
