Every once in a while, I have a moment of clarity about who I am and what I want for my life. It’s important to have a balance between being in the moment and living your life and taking a step back to make sure you’re living with intention, ya know?
These journal prompts for self-discovery are your chance to get some perspective. They might cause you to make some shifts in your life, big or small.
After you spend time journaling, look back through what you wrote. Even if you can’t transform your life tomorrow to perfectly match your daydreams, there’s likely a small piece that you could apply.
Similarly, you can’t change things that have happened in the past, but there are lessons to learn that you can apply to your future.
It all starts with awareness—hence the journal prompts for self-discovery.
How to Use These Journal Prompts
Choose one journal prompt and set a 5-minute timer. Grab your journal (this is my fav journal) or open a blank Google Doc (no shame in typing your journal!).
Each of these journal prompts is the beginning of a sentence. Write the prompt at the top of your page and then write continuously until your timer goes off. It’s ok if your writing goes off-topic. Just write wherever the prompt takes you.
If you run out of things to say, rewrite your journal prompt and start again. Often the good stuff comes up after you get all of the initial, obvious stuff written down.
